At Concorso d’Elegenza Villa d’Este last month, the latest BMW Motorrad concept bike was introduced to the world. Although this is only a new concept bike and not an actual bike yet, the concept bike takes the parallel twin engine to a new level in both function and style. We are hoping they come to a showroom floor in San Francisco, CA soon!
BMW has long been producing well-balanced bikes without sacrificing power for the past 95 years. It wasn’t until just recently that the bike maker decided to enter the arena of horsepower wars. BMW has long prided its bikes on their usability, but after it earned a staid reputation they put more focus on horsepower. Ten years ago BMW released the 200 horsepower S1000RR and put its staid reputation to rest. BMW is not in the same league as the mass production giants from Japan, but they now lead the pack of manufacturers who produce low volume and high-value specialist bikes.
Although the BMW 9cento is not currently a production model, it is probably going to be on its way soon. The new design offers electromagnetically-attached panniers and a light-weight design that allows for unheard of levels of mass centralization. With this new model, BMW has combined the right amount of power with its reliable sports touring properties to provide consumers with an attractive package. With the 9cento BMW has really focused on the functional properties of the bike and really shows how they can be combined nicely with the dynamic design of the bike to create a new and exciting bike.
